The design of the tree was created to celebrate my love of nature. It is loosely based on the view I have from my bedroom window and shows an impression of the landscape which I love. This mosaic tree has been made using a variety of materials. It contains a selection of different coloured glass tesserae-matt and shimmering, glass nuggets, mirror pieces and hand made and glazed ceramic tiles. I made the tiles in clay then cast them in plaster of paris so I could produce repeated leaf forms. I also made two different stylised bird and star tiles and cast those as well. The tiles have a relief surface and the glazes are a mixture of earthenware and underglazes. Dotted around the stars to catch the light are some small metallic beads which with the mirror pieces catch the light like twinkling stars at night.
